12 Part Series - Living a Life of Resolution.

Part 6 - Resolved for Biblical Morality

In Matthew 7:1 Jesus said, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Most people have interpreted this to mean that we cannot make any judgments about the actions of others. This is actually incorrect. What Jesus was teaching was that we should take stock of our own lives before we pronounce condemnation upon the lives of others. Yet, this does not rule out discernment. The Bible actually requires us to Discern the good from the bad, the moral from the immoral. In 1 These 5:21,22 it is written, “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” This is a call for Biblical discernment.

Quite frankly, we use discernment all day, every day. We discern who we will befriend, who we will date, and so on. The problem comes when others make discernments about how we live. That’s the rub. We don't want anyone confronting us with our view of morality. But the reality is that we are our bother’s keeper. We institute laws, all the time, to keep society morally safe and flourishing. Without moral discernment there’s chaos. When each person does what is right in their own eyes, without a care for how it will effect society, the lines of morality become blurred, chaos sets in and society moves further and further away from God. We eventually wake up one morning and wonder how things got so bad.

So be resolved for Biblical morality. Our welfare and the welfare of future generations are depending on it.
